EMI GOSPEL SIGNS ACCLAIMED SONGWRITER AND WORSHIP LEADER VASHAWN MITCHELL

EMI Gospel proudly welcomes acclaimed songwriter and worship leader VaShawn Mitchell to its family of artists.  Known for such Gospel hits as “My Worship Is For Real” and “For My Good,” Mitchell makes his debut on EMI Gospel with the high energy release Triumphant.  The first single, “Nobody Greater,” is active at radio now and will be on sale digitally May 18th

True to its title, the upbeat and inspirational project was recorded live at Higher Living Christian Church, the Atlanta-based ministry where Mitchell has been Minister of Music since 2007.  The progressive, urban styles of the southern metropolis can be felt throughout the album; however Mitchell never strays far from the sound and influences of his hometown---the birthplace of Gospel music---Chicago, IL.

VaShawn Mitchell first made his mark in Gospel more than a decade ago.  While still a teenager, he held prominent positions in the music departments of two of the Windy City’s most well-known churches, St. Mark Baptist Church and Bishop Larry D. Trotter’s Sweet Holy Spirit Church.  As the youngest Minister of Music in the latter church’s history, Mitchell successfully merged the contemporary themes he composed with the traditional choir vibe for which the Sweet Holy Spirit Church was known.  His efforts resulted in several top-selling choir recordings and spawned such memorable hits as “My Testimony” and “Trouble Don’t Last”.

Since that time, Mitchell has become a recognized songwriter, penning hits for several of Gospel’s most celebrated voices, including Smokie Norful, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, and Bishop Paul Morton.

Triumphant is marked by a spirit of fervent praise and worship from the enthusiastic high praise opener and the powerful title track, to the moving melody of “Be Fruitful.”  The show-stopping, instant classic “His Blood Still Works” features the distinctive sound of former Witness lead vocalist Lisa Page Brooks

Triumphant will be in stores and online August 10, 2010.
