EMI Gospel artist VaShawn Mitchell and Smokie Norful are celebrating multiple wins at the 27th Annual Stellar Awards, that taped before a live audience on Saturday at the historic Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville TN.
VaShawn Mitchell had a Triumphant evening as he led all nominees with 6 award wins, receiving top honors as Artist of the Year. Mitchell also won Male Vocalist of the Year, and Contemporary Male Vocalist of the Year and his album Triumphant, won the Praise & Worship CD of the Year. VaShawn’s hit song “Nobody Greater” won for Music Video of the Year and Urban Inspirational Song of the Year. Although it did not garner the “Song of the Year” award, the presentation from the announced winner Kirk Franklin to the song writer Darius Paulk was a Stellar evening highlight.
Smokie Norful known for his amazing vocals and contemporary sound won multiple awards for his traditional CD – How I Got Over- Songs that Carried Us. Norful went back to his roots with his most recent album, and the people agree, it is a hit. Winning in the traditional categories for Traditional Male Vocalist of the Year and Traditional CD of the Year, is something new for Norful and something he is truly proud of.
EMI Gospel salutes both VaShawn and Smokie for their hard work and dedication to their ministries and the music they perform and love.
